ABSTRACT

This research delves into the evolving landscape of large-scale parallel and distributed computing, driven by advances in internet technology and the emergence of cloud computing. The focus is on secure data sharing in cloud environments, essential for research collaboration and handling vast amounts of sensitive information. The study explores the challenges of data exchange, encryption, and key management in cloud-based systems. The aim is to design and implement a secured data sharing system using grid computing, with specific objectives including database development using MySQL, system design and implementation, and alpha testing. The significance lies in raising awareness among organizations and analysts about the potential of grid computing for secure data sharing. The study's scope is limited to data security in the cloud network, with a focus on individual sharing rather than group collaboration. The research provides valuable insights for future exploration in the realm of grid computing and data security. Secured distribution and sharing of data is sharing of sensitive, confidential, restricted, or even secret information in a way that ensures that the data is protected from unauthorized access or misuse. Although, sharing of data gives rise to security concerns, in case of group-shared data, the data face both cloud-specific and conventional insider threats. Secure data sharing counters insider threats of legitimate yet malicious users is an important research issue. In this work, we propose the Secure Data Sharing in Clouds. This study designed and implemented a secured data sharing system. The process was designed with HTML, CSS, Javascript, Bootstrap and PHP. The designed system is an efficient usable and reliable data sharing system based on its usage.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background to the Study

Advances in internet and the availability of powerful computers and high speed networks are changing the landscape of large scale parallel and distributed computing. These technology advances have allowed the use of distributed resources as a single and powerful virtual machine, leading to what is popularly known as cloud computing. Research-oriented organisations and universities practicing in advanced research collaboration areas require the analysis of tremendous amounts of data.

Secured distribution and sharing of data enables sharing selected data objects in a database in your account with other snowflakes account. Cloud computing provides mechanisms for resource sharing, by forming one or more virtual organisations providing specific sharing capabilities. Such virtual organisations could resolve specific research problems with a wide range of participants from different regions of the world (Cody, et al., 2018).

Sharing of sensitive, confidential, restricted, or even secret information in a way that ensures that the data is protected from unauthorized access or misuse or resource intensive scientific applications but it also promises to become the future computing paradigm for enterprise applications (Ajayi, 2016).

In times of global economic slow-down, organisations are increasingly under pressure to cut down their budget. With significant advances in and impact of information and communications technology (ICT), there is an increasing perception of computing as the fifth utility-after water, electricity, gas and telephone (Rajkumar et al., 2019). Sharing data through secured link is one of the computing paradigms that would utilise the power of computing in propelling everyday lives. (Foster et al., 2016).

Server consolidation process focuses on reducing the physical number of computers and moving the workloads/applications running on them to a smaller set of computers, while still maintaining service level objectives. This can be rapidly implemented then discharged through insignificant services exertion or services supplier connection. The general population uses to store their records at a reasonable cost or for free. The distinctive types of cloud service are Dropbox, using MYSQL.

It allows clients not only to claim the framework for different processing service but they can be also access the data from any computer in any part of the world. This consolidates the components supporting high versatility and multi-occupancy, offering high flexibility when compared with the earlier existing computing approaches. We compare the different parameters such as cloud security, data sharing, threads, algorithms, defense strategies, requirements and impacts on society.

The sharing of data securely in cloud computing is a very crucial method. The information is stored in cloud data centers. To access data from or store data into data centers through the internet, the intruders may attack our data. To avoid attackers hacking data and proper utilization of resources, we discuss many algorithms and techniques.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Data sharing between the two or more users is given. Failure of the data exchange in the cloud environment in the system will play the negative role in the real time data transmission between end users. The data which has been transmitted from source to the destination has to be encrypted. The encrypted data is stored in the cloud, but the problem comes with how to share the keys securely so that all the unnecessary information should not be exposed to the user. If the sender encrypts all the information using a single key and sends it to the receiver, he is exposing all the important information to the receiver, which is a breach of privacy. Also, if he sends each key for the encrypted data, then he needs to send decryption keys for each encrypted data. This is acceptable when the number of keys is small, but for thousands of keys, separate storage needs to be maintained, and these must be sent through a secure channel, where there might be a chance for data leakage.

1.3 Aim and Objectives of the Study

The aim of this study is to develop a model for security of data in the cloud environment. The specific objectives are to:

  1. i.                 Develop a data base for secured sharing using MSQL
  2. ii.               Design and implement a secured data sharing system
  3. iii.             Test the propose system using Alpha test method

1.4 Significance of the Study

The study is of benefit to organizations, program analyst and future researchers. The organizations will benefit from this study as the findings will create more awareness of the importance of grid computing in providing a system for whereby secured that can be shared to a vast majority of users who are authorized to have access to the grid environment. Also, the findings from the study will encouraged more program analyst in using the grid computing for secured data sharing. Finally, the findings will contribute to the pool of knowledge on the use grid computing and future researchers will find the study useful as it will serve as reference material to them.

1.5 Scope of the Study

The study focused on securely sharing data. The proposed work is to address the data security in the cloud network.

1.6 Limitation of the Study

The admin has access to all documents that is shared. The document can only be copy to the clipboard and then shared individually. The design does not entail group sharing of data/documents.

1.7 Definition of Terms

Data Security: Data security is a critical aspect of information technology and involves protecting data from unauthorized access, disclosure or destruction.

Grid Computing: Grid computing is a computing infrastructure that combines computer resources spread over different geographical location to achieve a common goal.

Cloud Computing: It is the practice of using a network of different servers hosted on the internet to store, manage and process data.
